Delhi – communication

Taxis

There is a place right after exiting the international airport terminal, where you pay in advance for a taxi to the center, 280 INR. It happened many times, that the taxi driver was making a little round the neighborhood in the middle of the night, then he drove tourists from hotel to hotel (mainly around Karol Bagh) simulating, that there are no seats, until he finally dropped them off at the hotel, offering an exorbitant price, even to 150 USD. This situation can only happen to someone in the middle of the night, when it is not possible to go to another taxi or tuk tuk and in relation to tourists, who came to India for the first time, what the driver realized during the conversation.

Please note, that many cheap hotels are closing (and even locked) from midnight to approx 6.00. Arriving late at night, so you have a limited choice of accommodation. If someone decides to take a taxi in the middle of the night to the center, let him write down the car's registration number immediately, ostentatiously. While driving, do not believe any stories about "Hindu-Muslim riots" in the place, which the tourist is going to, nor about that, that all the hotels are overcrowded. If the driver will impose himself with his proposals, you just need to change the taxi.

Who is in India for the first time, and the plane will land in Delhi in the middle of the night, instead of exposing yourself to the aforementioned trouble, make him wait a couple of hours in the terminal lobby. During the day, the risk of getting lost and cheated is much lower.

At the domestic terminal, there is a taxi booking point inside the building. It costs a lot to get a taxi to Connaught Place 98 INR plus 2 INR for each baggage. Taxi drivers outside the airport building usually offer much higher prices.

A taxi from Connaught Place to the international airport terminal costs approx 150 INR.

Bus

Bus travel should be avoided at all costs during rush hour. if it's possible, it is best to get on the first stop and get off at the final stop, for example, at Regal Cinema or Plaza Cinema at Connaught Place. Probability, that the tourist will find a place and will not be trampled, it is then much smaller. Seats on the left side of the bus are reserved for women only. Several Delhi Transport Corporation buses and private buses operate on fixed routes, unfortunately, the same.

Bus #505, Super Bazaar near Janpath, opposite the Imperial Hotel – Qutub Minar; bus #101, Connaught Place – interstate bus station at Kashmir Gate (Kashmir Gate), coaches #620 i #630, Connaught Place, from Jantar Mantar – Akanakjapuri; coaches #101, #104, #139, Regal Cinema – Red Fort. Ticket price for short journeys, for example the latter is 1 INR.

Taxis and Auto Rickshaws

Taxis and tutor rickshaws without exception have meters, but outdated, and drivers don't want to use them. They either refuse or explain, that they don't work. It is true, that they should use them, but scaring the drivers with the police ends with loud laughter. You should therefore always set a price before departure. Usually you pay more than you need to. It happens exceptionally, that the driver starts the counter, before he can say anything. You can rely on meters in the area around New Delhi Railway Station and the airport. There are too many police here and the drivers are afraid to cheat. And during rush hour or on the way to the airport in the middle of the night, we advise you to set a price. Otherwise, the driver may demand a higher payment in accordance with the new price list. The price list is sometimes legible, but it's usually hard to see anything. Well, what I can do? Use all possible arguments, In order not to overpay the course and pay a moderate price despite the driver's anger and protests.

The trip from Connaught Place to Red Fort costs approx 35 INR by taxi, 20 INR by tuk-tx. The price varies depending on the traffic, in hours. from 23.00 do 5.00 the surcharge in the taxi is 25%, in autorickshaw 20%.

There are also six-person fast auto-rickshaws in Delhi, which have fixed routes and prices. They are recommended especially during rush hour. They start their course from Palika Bazaar to Connaught Place, and end up in Old Delhi, at the fountain in Chandni Chauk, also passing the Red Fort; 2 INR per person.

Bicycle and bicycle rickshaw

Bicycles are a great means of communication, especially around New Delhi, where the streets are wide, well kept and – for Indian conditions - not too crowded. When crossing very busy roundabouts, the rule of "first come" applies, the better one ". In other situations, movement is normal. In New Delhi you can get everywhere by bike, even near Kutab Minar and other objects of interest to us located south of the center. Cycling around the city may be difficult only during the hot summer months, almost impossible.

W Delhi, oddly enough, there are few bike rentals. Mehta Electricals invites you to Pahargańdź to the Main Bazaar, next to the Kesri Hotel on Rajguru Rd; the bikes are old, but in good condition, 20 INR / day plus 400 INR of the deposit, pn. close.

Bicycle rickshaws are prohibited from entering Connaught Place and New Delhi. They are convenient for commuting to Connaugt Place and moving around Pahargańju and Old Delhi.
